Harry Potter Evangelism

Christian themes in Potter books make good evangelism tools, some say

Harry Potter Evangelism. A mild biblical oxymoron or downrightly blasphemous? Read the following bible verses below or you could simply do things the old-fashioned way and flip through your bible and decide for yourself.

The Harry Potter series revolves around "magic" which is little more than a screen for the biblically condemned practice of sorcery and witchcraft. Think that conjurations and incantations are harmless practices? Think again then. Your bible condemns witchcraft and places it on the same level as idolatry!

Sorcery is an evil which is an abomination before God. How can it not be so, when sorcerers are directly tapping into demonic forces? Incantations, wards, charms are all works of Satan. The Bible has made it exceedingly clear in the Old and New Testament that witchcraft is an abomination that no Christian should even be associated with.

Also he made his son pass through the fire, practiced soothsaying, used witchcraft, and consulted spiritists and mediums. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke Him to anger. 2 Kings 21:6

A man or a woman who is a medium, or who has familiar spirits, shall surely be put to death; they shall stone them with stones. Their blood shall be upon them. Leviticus 20:27

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft,
And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
Because you have rejected the word of the LORD,
He also has rejected you from being king. 1 Samuel 15:23

And I will come near you for judgment;
I will be a swift witness
Against sorcerers,
Against adulterers,
Against perjurers,
Against those who exploit wage earners and widows and orphans,
And against those who turn away an alien—
Because they do not fear Me,
Says the LORD of hosts. Malachi 3:5

Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie. Revelation 22:14-15

Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21

Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you[b] are the temple of the living God. As God has said:
“ I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.”

Therefore
“ Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you."
“ I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,
Says the LORD Almighty.”
2 Corinthians 6:14-17

And the Church has the audacity to repackage this great demonry and proclaim it as Christ's? What do the works of God have in common with the works of Satan?

[Time will tell whether Harry Potter can be used to promote Christianity, but the record 8.3 million U.S. copies the series’ final installment sold on its first day indicate that the Potter market will continue for a number of years.

It’s the “greatest evangelistic opportunity the church ever missed,” Neal said.]

If the modern church sincerely thinks itself bold enough to disregard God who has condemned witchcraft, and wise enough to wield demonic forces to extend the Kingdom of God, then the modern church is truly Laodicean; wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.

Repent, Christians.

someone PLEASE do let me know where in ANY of the Harry Potter books speaks of Christ and Him dying on the cross?!!

SIMBOLISM?? wow.. I wonder, why don't we teach the young kids the simbolism of a parent? I mean its easier right? Mom and Dad would not worry about the hassle of placing authority, love, care etc..in a child's life. We can place card-board boxes of... lets say.. E.T or Britney Spears as a simbol of a parent. how wonderful!

Fantasy Christianity.. thats new to me. Didn't know the message of the cross can be reduced to a mere fantasy..

"Neal said Christians should embrace SECULAR titles WITH POSITIVE MESSAGE like Harry Potter"

[Harry Potter is a “hugely moral series of stories about good, evil, love, friends and everything else,”]

that's interesting, I don't recall Jesus saying.. "Oh, do enjoy the world, learn from it, there are good stuff there for you, the people there will teach you good morals although it might not be from Me. And the devil can teach you good stuff too, don't worry, the main thing is its good and everything else in between"

I only remember the Christ saying:

if you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world...
John 15:19

They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
John 17:16

the bible clearly states:
And you He made alive, when you were dead through the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience.
Eph 2:1-2

We know that we are of God, and the whole world is in the power of the evil one.
1 John 5:19

Christ should and must be our only Way, TRUTH and LIFE. He's a living example!

I guess some of us don't know.

The writer herself admits that Harry Potter is secular. Please, show me where in the entire bible that says "Mix the Church of Jesus Christ with Secularism". is it in Heresy Chapter 9 Verse 666?

even she, did not say "evangelistic message" or "message of salvation" in Harry Potter. So why use it to lead ppl to Christ?

[“I led a guy to Christ using Harry Potter,” Neal said.]

Why don't we just throw away our bibles and use Harry Potter books instead to teach Christ? After all we don't need God's Word anymore, we've got Harry Potter! Hallelujah!

Christian Themes? I don't see suffering, salvation, death, resurrection, the cross.. Oh ya.. the fundamental ingredient -
Where's Christ?
opps.. i guess they forgot to put that in..

Hi there-

Well. Harry Potter Evangelism. . .? It cracked me up when I read that.

If Harry Potter could effect Christianity, I think other sources, too. I mean, look at WoW (World of WarCraft), Light and Darkness, Lineage II (I think... Looks like WoW to me). Most of it involves magic and incantations and whatnots.

Most of the media these days (games, books) has these in it. As fellow Christian, I think we should be really, really cautious about it.

It's.. just... well, entertainment. And it should NOT, AND NEVER be take seriously. Entertainment, and only entertainment(I think you might not agree with me on this...)but it pays to be careful when it comes to the Almighty.

Keizer,
Thanks for dropping by again. Glad to know that this blog has regulars. You are most welcome here to share your thoughts, even if they diverge from that of mine.

When I created this blog, it was intended to function as its name suggests, a watchfire; to keep a lookout and raise the alarm when enemy activity is detected. As the Apostle Paul said, behind all the preaching and evangelizing, we as Christians are waging the true war on the spiritual front. Our true enemies are not secular or liberal leaning Christians within the church or those outside Christianity that seek to destroy it. Rather, it is the “spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” that we are engaging in battle against. It is these demons which bind, blind and hold people, even Christians as captives to sin.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12

We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. 1 John 5:19

Paul further received these instructions from the Lord Jesus Christ upon his miraculous conversion as his task. He was told by Jesus that He was appointed to fulfill the following before Jew and Gentile alike:

To open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me. Acts 26:18

How does this relate to Harry Potter and other forms of entertainment which contains elements of witchcraft? Firstly, I contend that these “spiritual hosts of wickedness” are actively at work in seducing people, Christians included into falling into sin followed by spiritual bondage. Is it not surprising that most modern entertainment media contain elements that are abominable before the Almighty? I strongly believe that these insignificant issues of sin which Christians allow into their lives are the minute seeds of tares sown by the enemy which grew up and eventually threatened to affect the harvest.

Overwhelmingly, books, games such as those that you have named and movies contain material which profanes God’s Holy Name. Surely these are not the works of the Holy Spirit and if they are not, who else could be driving it? Some will argue that man himself is responsible for crafting such evils, but as mankind is in a fallen state, the fallen man that has not repented of his sins remain under the influence of Satan. There is no middle or “neutral” ground in this battlefield.
